Advocacy

Committee Participation: MCF is intensely involved in shaping state and local policy through participation on more than 22 policy committees, including the Children’s Mental Health Blueprint Committee, the Governor’s Interagency Transition Council, the Maryland Mental Health Coalition, and MSDE’s “Students with Emotional Disturbance” committee. Through our work on the MSDE committee, we were able to successfully pass legislation that changed the special education term from “emotional disturbance” to “emotional disability.”

Day in Annapolis for Families: Each year MCF brings families from across Maryland to the state capital in Annapolis to meet with their legislators. Family Day in Annapolis includes presentations by key state administrators and legislators, along with an update of the mental health budget and current legislation that would impact youth with mental health needs and their families.
